TEEN TITANS GO!
Okay, [livejournal.com profile] oytamarind has kindly pointed out to me that I don't blog enough. So here's an entry to remedy that. It won't be nearly as witty as his are, though, so XP (Also, I will use more emoticons, because I believe that it's irresponsible to type a blog entry without at least three emoticons.)

So today my friend brought me to a comic book convention. It was a pretty small one, about the size of an elementary school gym--you could walk around it in abour 5 minutes if you didn't get distracted by anything.

Being the silly person that I am, I got there quite early, and quite promptly felt like I had no right to be in there. I think I was maybe one of five women in there, excluding the artists and dealers. Throw in the fact that I actually have very little knowledge about comics outside of manga, and well... I spent the first half hour alternately wandering around and watching Teen Titans on a nifty little DVD player at a table.

My friend's friend showed up an hour after I'd arrived, and she said, "I can't believe he's standing up two girls!" "And a guy," her father chimed in. XD Said friend actually showed up a bit later, claiming he'd slept late.

Finally, with someone to guide my random wanderings, the con became a bit more fun. There were some guys from one table who kept making me laugh. I do laugh rather easily, but these guys were really hilarious. They had an Albert Einstein action figure, for goodness' sake! They kept encouraging people to buy things so that they wouldn't have to drive it home. And they nicknamed me "Gertrude." I wasn't fond of that, but it was better than "Henry." My friend found me a Teen Titans comic done in a manga style which he'd told me about earlier, and I also picked up a Chinese bootlegged Matrix VCD. I got both of them for three bucks, so I'm rather satisfied.

My only other purchase of the day was an ancient comic detailing the origin of Raven of the Teen Titans. That one was only 50 cents :D I picked up a few free things--a manga sampler and a War of the Worlds poster.

We came across some very bizarre comics, but only the ones about Martha Washington and The Who stand out in my head. I wish comic writers would be more creative than simply, "Oh, let's turn such-and-such hero evil! That'll sure be shocking!" I can't begin to describe how many covers I saw with Superman ready to kill someone.

I guess, all in all, it was worth it. Admission was only $3, as opposed to our anime con, which is about $30, I think. Between the amusing antics of the comic book guys and the weird comics, I had a few good laughs.
